NaNoWriMo—-Update 1

Have you ever been interested in writing a book? Then National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) might be what your looking for. National Novel Writing Month, is other words, a race, ( the Daytona 500 of story writing.) to win, you have to have written a 50,000 word novel, in a month. Cool huh? But here’s the catch: you don’t win anything, the only thing you “win” is a certificate that says that you wrote a book.
The first time I’ve heard of NaNoWriMo, I was very excited, and meant to sign up. But because of procrastination, I didn’t sign up. I was one of those people that thought it was impossible.
I was inspired, by one of my friends to sign up, and I’m very glad I signed up.
So this month, this blog will be dedicated to those in NaNoWriMo, and those who are interested in the art of writing.
Today, I’m going to tell you five tips for week 1.

1– Dance to the music (well not literally…):
When concentrating on anything artsy, listening to music really helps for me. Not orchestra music, hard rock ba by!!! 🙂 I’m not saying hard rock will work for everyone, just listen to whatever suits your fancy. Or if you like peace and quiet, I wouldn’t do music……

2–DO NOT PLOT!!!!: Last month, I tried making a plot. None of my plot ideas were not very appealing to me. I was extremely nervous for November. Then November 1st, 2009 came around. When I sat at my computer, I just started writing something random. ” And a cool thing happened. It developed into a story shockingly enough, and so far, 3,242 words later, I’m not stuck! 🙂

3–Turn off the Editor: This is a big problem, especially for those of us who are so thankful for backspace button. 🙂 It also lessens your word count drastically, so save the editing process for December.

4–Choose a Time: This one is very integral. The nice thing about NaNoWriMo is that you can write at any time. Heck, you even start at midnight! just as long as it’s a time where you were creatively at your best…..

5–Have fun!: have fun! 🙂
