Unreal Engine 4

The Unreal Engine has been used in many games, and recently game like Batman: Arkham City, and Gears of  War: Judgement. If you’ve watched any of the cinematic scenes in these games, the scenes were some of the most realistic CGI images ever used in gaming. These scenes made me wonder about maybe future Sci-Fi and Fantasy films being created using the Unreal Engine.

The new demo of Unreal Engine 4, Epic Games released at GDC (Game Developers Conference) called Infiltrator really makes me think making movies with this graphics tech is plausibly.

Game Review: Magic the Gathering-Duels of the Planeswalkers

I love card games. Apples to Apples, Uno, you name it. But, what if you combine those card games with fantasy role playing? Then Magic the Gathering: Duel of the Planeswalkers is the game for you!

The object of the game is to destroy your opponent’s life-source by battling with creatures and spells. It’s a lot more complicated than that. There are a lot of rules. So, if you’ve played like real-time strategy games, role playing games, and/or the Pokemon card game, you should be fine.

If you have no idea what I just was talking about, you’re in luck. There are tutorials to help you.

There are also plenty of modes: campaign mode, multiplayer, co-op, and puzzle. As you play, the game gets harder and harder, almost a little too fast, like I’ve been stuck on level 4 for almost an eternity it seems. But, you have an opportunity to unlock more cards every time you replay any of the previous levels. The cool thing about replaying previous levels is that the AI doesn’t use the same cards over and over, and that makes you able to get better. Stainless Games did amazing work.

Not much of a story in this game. Just that you play as a wizard and fight others wizards to become the best. This isn’t the next Final Fantasy.

The only multiplayer is over the internet or via system link, but no split screen. I played using Xbox Live. It was a little while before I was able to connect with someone. When I played the first time, I lost horribly. This is probably because I didn’t buy the game add-ons, thus the only cards I had were unlocked from playing campaign. So, before you play online, get at least one expansion, or unlock more cards that are by default in the game.

Graphics & Controls

The cards have always had beautiful artwork. The artwork looks better than ever. The graphics for the game could have had a smoother interface.

The controls are better. They are responsive, and the controller vibrates a little when you move cards.

Overall not a bad game for a downloadable game, I give it 3 ½ stars.

Platforms supported: Digital download for PS3, X360, PC

Every so often, I play a game that is so good, I beat it in a few days. ODST is exactly that. ODST (a.k.a Orbital Drop Shock Troops ) are soldiers that are the best of the best (next to Master Chief of course.). In this game you play as the new recruit called “the Rookie” , and you are being dropped from space into the African mega city of “New Mombasa”. The mission: stop the aliens called the Covenant. Or so your told. The true nature of the mission is, of course, top secret.

But something goes wrong. After you crash to earth in your pod, you notice something. You are separated from your team! You, will fight to survive in the dark, for the Covenant are out, looking for stragglers to slay. You will also find clues to find out where your team is. Usually in Halo games, the missions are usually search & destroy, but ODST is like a mystery game, where you look for clues to find your team.

A great break.

ODST also brings a beast mode called “Firefight” where you fight increasingly harder waves of Covenant. The main objective: how long can you survive. But, its not the only multi player mode. There is a second disc that has the classic shooter modes (CTF, DeathMatch, etc.) , character creation, and map editor. It also has all of the maps from Halo 3, and two new ones, so you don’t have to buy Halo 3 if you don’t own it.

But, the reason why I won’t give it a ten, is the disc with the maps. If you already own Halo 3, why do you need all the maps?

I give the game 9 points out of 10.

Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund REVIEW

The story of the Halo game series was always an enigma to me. This was because I’d never played campaign mode at that time, only deathmatch mode. Then, I found Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund. It proclaimed on the front in yellow letters “The Prequel to the Award-Winning Xbox game”.
I picked it up right away.
The book is sent in the 24th century. Man has colonized deep space, under the UNSC alliance, rather than countries. This alliance of men has been threatened by an alien threat hellbent on destroying the human race, with highly advanced plasma weapons.
They are a group of aliens called The Covenant.
Man is fighting back, and dying under the onslaught. The only hope is the highly efficent SPARTAN-IIs , a group of super-soldiers that never lose………but will that be true when fighting the aliens?
This book is not just recommended for gamers, but also fans of Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Orson Scott Card, and Tom Clancy.
Happy reading! 🙂
5 out of 5 stars.

Brutal Legend

This game looks amazing. It’s inspired by 80’s heavy metal, and the fantasy covers that adorned many an album in the 80s. Did I mention Jack Black is the voice actor for the character you play as? Heres a video:
